After a long break in the work on arranging and visually beautifying the pedestrian zones of Krk port, at this week’s working meeting of Krk town<\/a> Mayor Darijo Vasili\u0107<\/strong> and his closest associates, the topic was re-updated.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Although in recent years work has been carried out in the port of Krk to increase the stability of some of its buildings, already severely eroded by the ravages of the sea – primarily Ribarski Gat (Fisherman\u2019s Pier),<\/strong> but also the Main Pier<\/strong> – visually beautifying that part of the port area was, unfortunately, neglected.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The reason for this lay in waiting for the green light for the realization of tens of millions of kuna, but still unrealized, EU funds<\/strong> for the planned project of comprehensive reconstruction and extension of Krk port (with the extension of breakwater and arrangement of fishing port on its inside). The other reason is the ever-present need to invest funds from the City Budget in many other, more relevant and, according to the estimates of the relevant local government, “urgent” social and communal infrastructure projects.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

While the majority of island centres have made significant strides in recent years in modernizing and beautifying their port and coastal belts, in Krk, such investments have not been made in recent years. On the other hand, in Njivice, Malinska, Baska and Punta such investments have been made.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Agreements<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

After the works on the arrangement and paving of the coastal promenade of St. Bernardin were carried out in stages between 2005 and 2008, and four years later the rehabilitation and paving of part of the mooring in the Port of Krk along the breakwater, street beautification and ambient decoration of some of the most frequent parts of the city centre have not been achieved yet.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

A sign that something is changing in this area and that, despite the considerable problems caused by the coronavirus pandemic and the delays in economic activities and thus the filling of the City Budget, the local and port authorities will still find the strength to intensify their investments in the port area. In his public presentation of the conclusions from the last session of his Collegium this week, Mayor Vasili\u0107 himself announced.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Presenting the elements of the draft agreement which, after the City Council<\/strong> decides on it soon, should be concluded with the Krk County Port Authority<\/strong>, Vasili\u0107 pointed out that he, as a formal proposer, accepted the mentioned proposal on co-financing future works and services on projects that will be implemented in the area of the port open to public traffic of county importance – the port of Krk.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The second and third phase<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

After the eastern and southern coastal walls of the Fisherman’s Pier were repaired last winter and spring, the agreement now predicts the continuation of works on the second phase of reconstruction of the port facility.<\/p>\r\nVasili\u0107<\/cite><\/blockquote>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The same agreement would predict the continuation of stage works on the arrangement of the Krk coast, from the Fisherman’s Pier to the Marina Hotel, which would be the third phase, as well as the paving of the Main Pier and its connection with the Fisherman’s Pier, which would mean the final, fourth phase of the project of rehabilitation and arrangement of the port of Krk. The client of these works would be the Krk County Port Authority, and they would be financed by both contracting parties, each in the share of 50 percent of the total price of such interventions.<\/p>\r\nVasili\u0107<\/cite><\/blockquote>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Vasili\u0107 also adds that these are important investments that will take place in the next seven to eight years and for which significant budget funds will be allocated, emphasizing that the first thing that will follow is this summer constructively strengthened Fisherman’s Pier.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
