The public institution of Mljet National Park<\/b> has announced tourism results for the 2020 season. They\u2019ve stated their gratitude for everyone who visited the park this year, and especially to those who came despite the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2020, Mljet National Park, which is <\/span>situated on the Mljet Island<\/span><\/a>, had <\/span>a total of 37.844 visitors<\/b>. In 2019, the park was visited by 148.495 visitors. Guests could enjoy the natural beauties and rich cultural heritage of the island, but epidemiological measures had to be respected. The national park was also popular among sailors, as <\/span>1816 boats arrived at Mljet<\/b>, as compared to 2224 last year.<\/span><\/p>\n

In other news about the island, <\/span>reconstruction of the parts of the walking trail around Veliko Jezero<\/b> has started. More precisely, Pra\u010darica – Bjejaka path, which is intended for walkers and cyclists is being reconstructed. The total value of the project is about 400.000 Euros, and the work should be finished within 3 months. Mljet NP institution has partnered with European Union Funds to complete the trail, which is <\/span>a part of the larger project worth about 6.5 million Euros.<\/b> The goal of this project is to improve the infrastructure on the island, to increase the quality of tourism, educational and recreational activities in the Mljet National Park. Currently in the process is the construction of <\/span>Gustjerna <\/span><\/i>interpretation center at Veliko Jezero. Other projects include fixing up the Volunteer center <\/span>Kulijer<\/span><\/i> and parking lot in Vrbovica, buying three new kiosks and establishing the theme trails in the park.<\/span><\/p>\n

Participating in the project are<\/b> Mljet Island Tourist Board and associations DE\u0160A and HGSS. For everyone planning to visit Mljet Island and the national park in the near future, there are a few ferries to the island, most notably from <\/span>Dubrovnik <\/span><\/a>and <\/span>Prapratno<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n
