The Ministry of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, along with the director of European Financing Fund and Split Port Authority have signed a contract about<\/span> financing and reconstruction of the Split ferry port<\/b>. The total cost of the project is about 5.5 million euros. 85 percent of the total amount is going to be financed by the European Funds, while the remaining 15 percent is coming from the government.<\/span><\/p>\n

The project is meant to expand parts of the ferry port in Split<\/b>. The expansion should make it easier for the catamarans to arrive, as well as make more space for all the foot passengers who are using the port. This also means less crowds in the area of the port and Split city center. A new international passenger terminal will be built on the west side of the port. The current terminal will move there, creating an additional space for passengers.<\/span><\/p>\n

From 2016 to 2019, passengers traveling on the catamaran ferries have increased by 60 percent. In 2016, <\/span>there were 714.034 passengers, while in 2019 that number increased to 1.145.818. <\/b>After the project is finished, there will be 4 new catamaran moors, which are currently not functioning. A total of 1400 square meters of the shore would be built. The new shore will have utility equipment, lighting and new green areas. Also, people with disabilities will have better access to the port. <\/span><\/p>\n

Split ferry port is the largest in the country<\/span><\/a>, and 22nd in European Union. <\/span>In 2019, over 5.6 million people went through the port<\/b>, a 3 and a half times more than in 2000. Also, 830 thousand vehicles went through the port, two and a half times more than in 2000. The new area in the port will make the port function more easily, while keeping the same passenger numbers. It is estimated that traffic in the port will get back to the pre-pandemic numbers pretty soon.<\/span><\/p>\n
