We can proudly say that Rab island<\/a> is the first optical island in Croatia and that almost 90% of the island is covered by the optical network<\/strong>, said Anamaria Koloni\u0107 <\/strong>from the Sector for Planning and Engineering of Access Televisions of Hrvatski Telekom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Koloni\u0107 further adds they are introducing the optical network all over Croatia and they do not see it as a privilege only for big cities, but they want to connect the whole of Croatia, including small towns, rural areas and islands<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Optical infrastructure and fast and quality internet access will enable the whole community to increase economic activity and quality of life of the citizens of Rab and their guests<\/strong>, which was felt especially in these pandemic times when everyday life has moved into homes.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Koloni\u0107 also highlights that the introduction of the optical network will also reduce interference after thunderstorms for which this region is known<\/strong>, regardless of the beautiful images during the storm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due to its specific terrain configuration and proximity to the sea, Rab required the introduction of new techniques and concepts and the adaptation of existing ones. There were numerous challenges with the addresses of users that were not resolved through the cadastre. Nevertheless, the island of Rab is no longer an island when it comes to optical networks, but an equal part of the most advanced communication link standing side by side with the world’s most developed cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Optical network – a new milestone in technology<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Hrvatski Telekom has the largest optical network in Croatia so far, covering more than 400,000 households, enabling them to enjoy gigabit speeds. In 2021, for the second year in a row, a record coverage of optics was achieved, and by the end of the year, the plan is to reach about 100,000 new connections.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The optical network also enables data transmission over much greater distances with almost no signal attenuation<\/strong>. Regardless of the location of the apartment or office, the optical infrastructure, with significantly less energy required, provides high transmission speeds. And in addition, it is almost insensitive to electromagnetic interference, which ultimately ensures better quality and stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simply put, in the long run, optics is the best technology for data transmission, both in terms of speeds and low latencies of 3-4 milliseconds, which are already completely common in optics today. Likewise, optical networks are a prerequisite for the development of 5G technology<\/strong>, which is an important milestone for the world and the foundation of future technological, economic and social development as well as a higher quality of life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
