The tourist season is in full swing and all places on the Adriatic coast are trying to improve their offer for the upcoming visitors. The latest investments referred to beaches and their facilities, among other things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sipan and Kolocep beaches got lifts for the disabled<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This swimming season, people with disabilities and people with reduced mobility will be able to swim on the beaches in Su\u0111ura\u0111 on \u0160ipan<\/a> and Donji \u010cel on Kolo\u010dep<\/a>, which have lifts for people with disabilities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Dubrovnik city administration, the preparation of Dubrovnik’s beaches for this type of guest has been completed. Previously, elevators for people with disabilities were installed in Zaton Veliki<\/strong>, in Zaton near the local fire brigade station, and on Mandra\u010d beaches <\/strong>in Solitud <\/strong>and Copacabana<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In accordance with the measures and activities of the Strategy for Equalizing Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities of the City of Dubrovnik for the period from 2021 to 2025<\/strong>, the City of Dubrovnik arranges and adapts the beaches in its area for persons with disabilities, in such a way as to arrange the access, parking spaces and elevators for the descent to the sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In July 2020, a coordination team was appointed with the aim of monitoring the condition of the elevator and eliminating possible malfunctions and damages. In addition to the team leader and his deputy, members are appointed for each individual location, who is responsible for daily monitoring of elevator operation, especially timely charging and installation of elevator drive batteries, and reporting possible problems to the leader or deputy of the Coordination Team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lumbarda beaches equipped with ecological ashtrays<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Cigarette butts are the most common type of waste on Earth, and estimates say that more than 4.5 billion cigarettes end up in the environment every year<\/strong>, which is about a third of the total number of cigarettes smoked in the world. Some countries put an end to this with repressive methods, and the Municipality of Lumbarda on the island of Kor\u010dula<\/a> has so far turned to educational methods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ecological beach ashtrays have been installed on the sandy beach of Pr\u017eina <\/strong>in Lumbarda, and the same will soon be installed on the beach of Bilin \u017eal<\/strong>, on the northern side of Lumbarda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The whole story works quite simply. All of you who enjoy lighting up on the beach, take a cardboard ashtray from the rack, fold it according to the instructions on the ashtray itself and try to leave your cigarettes in the ashtray and not on the beach. At the end of the day, throw the ashtray in the trash and that’s it. It does not require a lot of effort, and it will greatly contribute to the cleanliness of the beach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cigarette filters are made of plastic, so a cigarette thrown into nature needs much more to decompose than smokers think. Research by scientists from the Biology Department of Anglia Ruskin University showed that plants grown in soil polluted by cigarette butts have 25% shorter shoots and 60% less root biomass than plants growing in healthy soil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cigarette butts contain microplastics, the same one that has been polluting seas and oceans for decades, as well as groundwater, which then end up in drinking water. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
