Announced new ferry lines might not operate this season

The leadership of the Brijuni National Park did not meet the needs of Pula and Fažana‘s small shipowners who were looking for better financial conditions for sailing on the territory of the park. NP Brijuni remained of the opinion that it would not reduce the price of the concession for shipowners.

A meeting was held between representatives of small shipping companies in Pula and Fažana and the management of the Brijuni National Park with the aim of finding an agreement on the long-standing problem of charging a concession for the passage of excursion tours near Brijuni.

Before the meeting, the shipowners prepared three proposals and also said that if one of them is not accepted, they will be forced to sail elsewhere, for example to Kamenjak. The meeting, which the media were not allowed to attend, was convened by the management of the Brijuni National Park.

After almost three hours, the director of Brijuni, Marno Milotić, said that in the end, they stayed on the conditions that the management considers to be the most honest. According to this modality, shipowners would pay one kuna out of season and one kuna and 70 lipas per season, according to the registered number of passengers, for each entrance to the Park area. In addition, shipowners will have the opportunity to choose between two payment models. The first option allows them to pay a lump sum per day, and the second charge only when they sail and do business, or when they enter within the boundaries of the Park.

The president of the Association of Small Shipowners of the Istrian County, Pavle Orešnik, briefly commented that 90% of shipowners cannot stand such conditions, so many of them will have to give up.
