KRALJEVICA – A hybrid powered catamaran is being built

In Kraljevica, at the Dalmont shipyard, they started building an eco-boat, this time a hybrid diesel-electric catamaran.

After two fully electric-powered catamarans, which have been transporting visitors to the Krka National Park for the second season, the Dalmont shipyard in Kraljevic has started building another, similar eco-boat, this time with a hybrid, diesel-electric drive, which will sail in Dubrovnik’s waters next summer – reports pomorac.hr

In this case, too, we are talking about a 15-meter catamaran, with a capacity of transporting 50 passengers and two crew members, which will establish a connection between the Arboretum Trsteno and the botanical garden in Lokrum, all within the project “Historical gardens of the Dubrovnik area”, which is co-financed with grants from the European Fund for Regional Development.

Ecological breakthrough
It is a valuable job and a new reference in the development and advancement of the Kraljevica skver into the ecological zone and the construction of “greener” powered ships. Already at the beginning of last year, Dalmont announced that they were able to build an electric ferry with the capacity to transport 60 cars and 350 passengers. Until such a larger ship is ordered with a hybrid or pure electric drive, Dalmont’s shipbuilders are “grinding” and gaining experience on smaller ships.

As Novi list has learned, the contract price for the hybrid catamaran for the Lokrum Reserve is HRK 6.9 million, and it should be delivered in June next year.

Another new construction is currently underway at Dalmont’s facilities, namely for the Rijeka company Rijeka plov, with which a month ago they contracted the construction of a 10-meter work-mooring boat, which is planned for delivery in August 2023.

There is also activity in the renovation works. The 120-meter cement transport ship “Leptis Star“, owned by the Mediterranean Coral Shipping Co., is moored at the shipyard, which will stay in the Kraljevic harbor for the next month and a half. This is a somewhat more extensive overhaul of this thirty-year-old ship, and it is worth mentioning that it is the second ship of the same company that has sailed to Kraljevica for overhaul in the last few months.

Jadrolinija’s ferry “Kornati”, which arrived due to a minor intervention, is also on the dock, and the next to arrive from the fleet of the national passenger shipping company for its regular overhaul is the ferry “Ilovik”.

The fishing boats “Beli” and “Nebeski” are undergoing repairs, and until a few days ago, the fishing boat “Marc” was also on “service”. All of these are fishing boats that were built by the royal shipbuilders ten years ago, as part of the national fishing fleet renewal program.

Renovation of the “Seagull”
Tito’s former ship “Galeb” is also under construction, which has already become an indispensable part of the daily view of Dalmont’s shipyard, given that it has been three years since that ship was brought to Kraljevica for a comprehensive conversion into a ship-museum.

It is worth reminding that at the end of May this year, before the meeting of the Rijeka City Council, where it was decided to divert additional funds for the decoration of the “Galeb”, a tour of this ship was organized. Apart from the realization that the costs of the renovation, which include shipbuilding and restoration work, will be significantly higher than planned, the announcements at the time were in the direction that “Galeb” should be fully completed by the end of this year. Apparently, even that last set deadline will not be reached.
