93% of the 2019 tourist traffic results were achieved in August

Trends in tourist traffic at the peak of the season appear to be better than expected. How excellent the results are shows the eVisitor system data, according to which about 1.6 million arrivals and about 12 million overnight stays were realized in Croatia so far in August. That is a 20% increase in arrivals compared to last August’s same period and a 29% increase in overnight stays

Compared to the same period in August 2019, that’s 80% of the results in arrivals and 93% in overnight stays!

Director of the Croatian National Tourist Board Kristjan Staničić says extremely good trends in tourist traffic from July continued during August. The result is practically equal to the results achieved in August, a record 2019.

He adds that all the results so far are the result of very good preparation and implementation of the season by the entire tourism sector and government measures, but also the fact that our country is the safest tourist destination in the Mediterranean. Compared to the record year 2019, we are currently at about 70% of the results, and the announcements for the rest of August and September are also very good.

Once again, Staničić points out that the most important thing is to maintain the favourable epidemiological picture, adherence to all prescribed epidemiological measures and recommendations, as well as vaccination of the population in as large a number as possible.

Namely, in the previous part of the year, there were about 8 million arrivals and 49 million overnight stays in Croatia, which compared to the same period last year represents an increase of 46% in arrivals and 37% in overnight stays. Compared to the same period in 2019, that is 60% of the results in arrivals and 70% in overnight stays.

More than a million tourists still stay in Croatia daily, of which about 920 000 are foreigners. Currently, most tourists stay in Istria, Kvarner, Split-Dalmatia, Zadar and Šibenik-Knin counties, and looking at the nationality, most are Germans and domestic tourists, followed by Slovenes, Poles, Austrians and Czechs.

Let us also add that a few days ago in Croatia, in August, the total number of tourists from 2020 was exceeded, which is also a confirmation of the excellent preparation and implementation of the season.

We would like to remind you that in the record 2019, Croatian tourism achieved more than 20 million arrivals and almost 109 million overnight stays, as well as about 12 billion euros in revenues, and the share of tourism in Croatian GDP was about 20%.
