Bureau of Statistics: Fewer cruise ships in Croatian ports in 2022 than in 2019

In the first 11 months of 2022, 82 foreign cruise ships entered Croatian ports, according to the latest data from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics.

82 foreign cruise ships entered Croatian seaports out of 627 cruises in the period from January to November 2022. There were 625,000 passengers on these ships, who stayed in Croatia for 1,319 days.

Numbers three times higher than in 2021

In the first 11 months of 2022, the number of trips by foreign cruise ships as well as the number of passengers on these ships is three times higher than in the same period in 2021, when, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, stricter epidemiological measures were introduced that limited foreign ships to cruise travels. The number of days of stay of ships is twice as high compared to the first eleven months of 2021.

In the first 11 months of 2022, compared to the first 11 months of 2019, the number of trips by foreign cruise ships decreased by 11.7%, the number of days spent by foreign ships decreased by 6.7%, while the number of passengers on these ships decreased by 43.6%.

Cruise ships from 15 different countries

Foreign cruise ships in the first eleven months of 2022 sailed under the flags of 15 countries. The largest number of trips by foreign cruise ships was made under the flag of the Bahamas, namely 163 visits, which is 26.0% of the total trips made in the first eleven months of 2022, followed by cruise trips made under the flag of Malta (146 visits), Italy (70 visits) and Panama (65 visits).

Dubrovnik port the most visited

Out of 627 round trips, most of them were made in Dubrovnik-Neretva County (44.3%) and Split-Dalmatia County (31.9%), which is a total of 76.2%. The remaining 23.8% of trips were made in the following counties: Zadar (12.6%), Istria (4.8%), Primorsko-Goranska (3.5%) and Šibenik-Knin (2.9%).

The port of Dubrovnik had the most visits by foreign cruise ships (408 visits), followed by the terminal in Split (267 visits), Gazenica port (143 visits), the port in Hvar Town (98 visits), the port in Korcula (91 visits), Rovinj port (63 visits) and Šibenik port ( 60 visits).
