Korcula island – Tourist statistics for the first 7 months of 2020

The season of 2020 is in full swing and it turned out to be better than expected. All of the islands on the Croatian coast are still packed with tourists and the peak season continues.

Despite the corona crisis, the island of Korcula had significant number of arrivals and overnight stays. In the first 7 months, there were 10,930 overnight stays in the Municipality of Smokvica, which represents 39.27% of last year’s overnight stays in the same period.

There were 8006 overnight stays in private accommodation, which is 61.93% compared to the same period last year. 2658 overnight stays were realized in non-commercial accommodation, which is 80.96% compared to last year. Unfortunately the hotel remained closed and could not contribute to this year’s result.

Our top visitors this year are Slovenians followed by Croats, Poles, Germans and Czechs.

In the past seven months of 2020, there were 52,432 overnight stays in Vela Luka, or 50% less than for the same period last year. The largest drop in overnight stays was recorded in hotel accommodation of 72%. Here we must emphasize that the largest hotel in Vela Luka, Hotel Poseidon, is not open, while Jadran was open for only a few days during July. The smallest drop in overnight stays in seven months was in the camp “Mindel”, i.e. only 10% less.

As for July, the data is much more favorable. A total of 38,159 overnight stays were recorded in July, or 64% compared to last year.

Thus, as much as 79% of last year’s results were achieved in private accommodation and the only increase in the number of overnight stays was in the “Mindel” camp of 6%.

This year, our most loyal guests are Slovenes with 10,115 overnight stays or only 2% less.

7% fewer overnight stays were recorded by Germans and Croats, while the largest decline was recorded by guests from Great Britain, -70%, Poles by 62%, Austrians by 43% and guests from neighboring countries of Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Italy.
