Losinj island gets two new bike routes

As a continuation of the Master-plan of bike-tourism of the island of Losinj, the City of Mali Losinj, Tourist Board of the City of Mali Lošinj, Jadranka d.d. and Lošinjska plovidba Turizam d.o.o. confirmed their readiness to develop cycling tourism and create a “bike-friendly” destination. They signed an agreement on cooperation in the implementation of the project of arranging pedestrian and bicycle routes in the area of the City of Mali Lošinj.

On behalf of the institutions, the agreement was signed by Ana Kučić – Mayor of the City of Mali Lošinj, Dalibor Cvitković – Director of the Tourist Board of the City of Mali Lošinj, Sanjin Šolić – President of the Management Board of “Jadranka” d.d. and Marina Brajković – President of the Management Board of “Lošinjske plovidbe Turizam” d.o.o.

This is just the beginning of a major project of reconstruction and arrangement of all bike paths along our archipelago and it will provide tourists with a safe way to explore the natural beauty of the island of Losinj while allowing locals unhindered and the well-maintained path to their plots and family farms. This is perhaps a good opportunity to mention that in addition to the agglomeration project, bicycle paths will be planned and arranged on all sections in parallel and the first in line is the reconstruction of the state road D-100 from Osor to Nerezine.

Ana Kučić, Mayor of the City of Mali Lošinj

This agreement defines the arrangement of two bicycle-pedestrian routes. The 25 km long “Blueline” route, which connects the east and west coasts of the island of Lošinj, stretches from Sunčana uvala, Čikat via Mali Lošinj to Rovenska in Veli Lošinj, where the largest number of accommodation facilities in the area of Mali and Veli Lošinj gravitates.

We believe that synergy is key in the continuous investment in the development of our island, which is why it is extremely important to us that Lošinj’s Jadranka d.d. as a partner participates in all activities aimed at the growth and development of the island of Lošinj. One of them is certainly the arrangement of hiking and biking trails and creating a bike-friendly destination with all the services and offers related to this segment of tourism, which, we are sure, will affect the additional positioning and recognizability of the entire Lošinj archipelago.

Sanjin Šolić, President of the Management Board of “Jadranka” d.d.

The second 15 km long route called “Stonewalls trail” starts from Nerezine, through the birthplace of St. Gaudentius – Trzic, to the ancient city of Osor.

In the desire to preserve and raise awareness of guests about the importance and characteristics of our ‘boulders’, and the overall cultural heritage of the island, we are happy to participate in this project that will one day connect all cycling routes of our beautiful island, and offer guests additional content.

Marina Brajković, President of the Management Board of” Lošinjske plovidbe Turizam “d.o.o.

Cycling has been very popular in Europe and the world in recent years and one of the most important products for us with which we can extend the tourist year and with the new routes ‘Blueline’ and ‘Stonewall trails’ we are creating a new tourist product on the island of Lošinj. The anticipated deadline for the completion of the route is five years with annual joint investments of all partners of approx. HRK 2.5 million, which will be defined for each business year, depending on the complexity of each phase of the project.

Dalibor Cvitković, Director of the Tourist Board of the City of Mali Lošinj

In addition to investing in trails, in the area of the Town of Mali Lošinj, we will work on improving all other services related to bike tourism, from the accommodation, gastronomy, transport, natural experiences, cycling services, to strengthening the local scene with greater involvement of local people.
