Vis Island

Vis Island introduces demographic measures for young families

The town of Vis, in addition to the already known tourist results, also boasts excellent demographic measures and the idea of how to bring young people to the island. Unique in their model, they are building apartments with their own funds, which they will give to long-term leases to young families from all over Croatia.

The former barracks Samogor in the area of the town of Vis will soon have almost the first 13 out of a total of 52 apartments for young families, as HRT reported.

Demographic policy is not just about giving money, it is also about thinking about jobs as well as housing. We are in the phase of realization of 13 apartments, investments of 6 million HRK. We received a million from EU funds for energy reconstruction, the rest was financed from our budget.

Ivo Radica, Mayor of Vis

The first tenants in Samogor are expected in April 2021. Three more buildings will be built in the same way. Young families from all over Croatia can apply and the Vis town has developed a unique rental model for these apartments.

For now, we are considering renting, we have not defined for how many years, with the possibility that these apartments and the family can buy in about 10 years. Everything they invested in it will be included in the price.

In the immediate vicinity of the Vis waterfront, 22 apartments from the subsidized housing program are being built.

Three real estate agency buildings for 22 families and when you add those 13 from the barracks you get to number 35. We think that’s more than a great demographic measure for a small town like Vis.

Regarding Incentive Housing Program apartments, we are building all access roads and parking lots, and for Samogor along roads and children’s playgrounds.

Damir Mumanović, Head of the Sector for Technical and Operational Affairs of Gradina Vis

Vis town has completed the overall demographic picture with housing for young people. Behind them is the construction of nurseries and kindergartens, a secured all-day stay, a sports hall, renovated primary and secondary school buildings and a home for the elderly and infirm.
