Direct flights from Germany to Brac island planned for 2021

German charter airline Sundair has announced two new direct flights to Croatia. Both lines will be seasonal, and will connect two German cities, Berlin and Dusseldorf with Bol on Brac Island. Brac has one airport, located near Bol town. Although small, it can accommodate charter flights. Some tour operators from Germany have already started selling group and individual packages for summer 2021.

Route Dusseldorf – Brac will start operating from 22 May to 02 October 2021. It will depart once per week, each Saturday. The second route Berlin – Brac will last from 23 May to 03 October 2021, also once per week, but on Sundays. Sundair was supposed to have these lines in the summer of 2020, but all flights were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. All flights will be operated by A319 buses, which have a capacity of 150 seats. With these flights, Brac will once again have a direct connection with Germany.

Project Calculation and selection of waste on the islands

Nela Kovačević, from the Dalmatian Consumer Association, presented on Brac island the project and the results of the research: “Calculation and selection of waste on the central Dalmatian islands.”

The project was implemented in three counties (Zadar County, Split-Dalmatia, Dubrovnik-Neretva County) and included seven islands: Solta, Brac, Hvar, Vis, Korcula, Lastovo and the island of Iz.

Based on the conducted research, the of Supetar town and especially the company Komunalno društvo Grad d.o.o. are highlighted as an example of good practice, transparency and business at the highest level. All decisions and everything important as far as citizens are concerned is available on the website and in their business they adhere to all decisions and legality, taking into account consumer protection.

The efforts and results achieved with waste collection on the doorstep, where Supetar is one of the few cities on the islands that introduced it, were especially praised.

The Green BRAČ project

The Green BRAČ project, which is carried out by the Supetar town and which partners all Brac municipalities was presented as an example of good practice in informing citizens about the topic of waste. Back in 2014, the Aktiva Entrepreneurship Center initiated the design and development, and later implementation, of the first project that connected all Brac municipalities around one topic, namely waste management on the island. This first version of the Green Brac project has already been highlighted as one of the best educational projects at the level of the Republic of Croatia by the Fund for Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency.

The project was presented by the director of Aktiva Entrepreneurship Center Dijana Žderić. In her presentation, she emphasized the difficulties we encountered in the implementation, which in the first place relate to the inconsistency of legislation and terrain, which causes anger and frustration among citizens who bear the financial burden of change and without a concrete and timely information on how, when and at what cost this system will really be from the third version of this project, because waste management is a topic that can always and must be talked about, informed and educated.
