Zadar to invest 80 million kuna into its port infrastructure

The Minister of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, Oleg Butkovic, has praised the County Port Authority as the best in the state by using EU funds for financing projects. The Port Authority is acquiring more infrastructure projects every year. They also finished 2021 with a range of big projects.

David Škibola, the director of the County Port Authority, has emphasized that this year is built on the success of previous years when they’ve prepared the necessary documentation. One of those projects started at the end of 2021.

This is the City port of Sali upgrade, a project within the Operational Program Competitiveness and Cohesion 2014-2020. Complete project documentation and costs are provided by EU funds and funds from the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure.

Enhancing the security of sea transport

The total expenditure of the project is 90.554.459,65 kuna, and the project is estimated to last 36 months. The goal of the project is to enhance the security of Sali port on Dugi Otok island, the procurement of year-long sea transportation and better connections of the island with the mainland.

The works will include the construction of a new shore 149 meters long, arrangement of the coastal area and the construction of the main breakwater for protection against waves. The new shore and the inner side of the main breakwater will be used to moor public transport vessels, excursion boats and nautical tourism vessels.

The construction of the breakwater will enable the use of the outside of the breakwater for occasional short-term mooring of various vessels during the summer and in appropriate weather conditions – explains Škibola. He also noted that by June they expect completion of works on the coastal zone of Drago Dugovača Bay by the County Seaport Administration Zadar and Pakostane Municipality.

Sea port for bigger boats

The area where construction is underway is part of the port which is handling sea transport and the part for communal berths.

When the project is finished, that is, when the construction of the 40-meter coastline is completed, bigger boats and cruisers can sail into the port. The communal part of the harbor will have a capacity of 80 boats, said the County Port Authority.

On our list of projects, we plan on finishing by the middle of 2022 is the project Arrangement of a part of the coastal belt in Sukošan port.
The plan is to build a new coastal wall and to reconstruct most of the surfaces of the berths. Also, we plan on removing the existing pier and building a new one, 12 meters in length.

Also, a part of the project is the deepening of the port sea area to secure the depth of the communal berths. The cost of the construction is estimated at 6.610.659,50 kuna, without tax, said the Port Authority director.

He also added that they plan on finishing construction in Ugljan Čeprljanda. The cost of this project is 1.862.063,75 kuna with tax. The plan is to wrap up construction works on the pier in Privlaka, also in 2022. The cost is estimated at 3.487.915,00 kn with tax.

2022 also brings new projects to the table.

Coastline reparation

The plan for 2022 is to do coast remediation in the following ports: Pag, Sv. Filip i Jakov, Nin, Ražanac-Plamići cove, Olib and Veli Iz. The total costs of this port investment, which are planned for 2022 are 80.390.340 kuna. The biggest part of the expense is 54.066.744 kuna tied to the aforementioned EU-funded project Dogradnja gradske luke Sali.

Along with these investments, the County Port Authority is constantly working on renovating its ports. Until now, it has signed more than 600 contracts with berth users, and is currently working on contracts for berths in communal ports in Mali Iz and Veli Iz – said director Skibola.

Key projects in 2021

Last year, the Port Authority finalized a couple of smaller and bigger projects. For them, the most important project is the construction of the port in Tkon on island Pasman worth 32.591.045,60 kuna.

-This project was one of the first 28 projects funded by the EU. One of the goals of this project was to build a modern and safe harbor, updated with new services to improve and secure transportation throughout the year, regardless of tourist jams – said Skibola.

The port authority obviously continues with its praiseworthy tempo which helped them rank as one of the most successful port authorities in the country. Also, these projects are very important for the improvement of the infrastructure of local communities.

As he listed projects finalized in 2021, Skibola noted that was the year when construction on the reparation of parts of the promenade in Tribanj-Kruscica. This reparation entailed the removal of non-solid parts of the promenade and the construction of a new naval wall and a wall layer. The total cost of the construction is worth 472.320,14 kuna without tax.

The project of the arrangement of a part of Petar Kresimir IV. coast in Nin’s port, worth 478.330 kuna without tax, was also finalized in 2021. Within the project of the construction of the roundabout in Batalaza cove in Kali, the County Port Authority Zadar co-financed the construction of a new coastal wall in Batalaza, worth 1.500.000 kuna, said Skibola.
