Large investments in port infrastructure on Rab Island

On the island of Rab, capital investments in port infrastructure are underway. In the synergy of local self-government units, competent ministries and money from EU funds – communal, fishing and nautical ports are completely changing.

Before the start of the tourist season, the island of Rab is a large construction site and the people of Rab live from the sea and tourism. Melak and San Marino ports will be safe and modern after several decades.

The works worth more than 80 million kuna were visited by the Minister of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure Oleg Butković.

Director of the Rab County Port Office Nenad Debelić says that today there is a quality facility that not only protects the existing port from the weather, but the operational coast in this part of the municipality of Lopar is ensured as well.

In the town of Rab, 400 meters of the coast are being renovated, a fishing port is being built and the number of nautical berths is increasing. Debelić adds that currently, they are carrying out works on the construction of a fishing port, funds in the amount of almost twenty million kuna have been provided through EU funds and through the Ministry of Agriculture.

The reconstruction of San Marino port begins

Next week, the first phase of the development of the port of San Marino will begin, which is only part of the investment cycle of the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, which is implementing projects on Rab and other parts of the Croatian coast with money from European funds.

As Butković says, these are really big investments in port infrastructure on the entire Croatian coast. They are investing about a billion and a half kuna in the reconstruction and construction of the waterfront. It is the largest investment cycle in the last fifty years, and they can thank European funds.

One of our most beautiful islands, which has five times more population during the summer months, popularly called “Happy Island” with 30 sandy beaches will soon provide sailors and renters of tourist boats with a much higher standard.
