MURTER – The HISTORIC project is successfully completed

The municipality of Murter is successfully completing the HISTORIC project. You can now visit the ancient Colentum with the multimedia guide.

The municipality of Murter-Kornati is successfully completing the HISTORIC project, which created the conditions for sustainable and balanced management of cultural and natural heritage on the Gradina peninsula, and with the help of an educational multimedia guide (tablet), you can now virtually revive the ancient city of Colentum – reports murter-news.com

The archaeological site of Colentum
Among the first activities of the project, back in 2019, the largest archaeological and conservation works in the history of the Colentum site, worth approximately HRK 1 million, were carried out. In doing so, an area of 1,100 square meters of the beach was explored, where 22 ancient walls were discovered, and a total of 210 meters of newly discovered ancient walls were conserved. Also, an attractive land-sea promenade has been arranged as the backbone of the first Croatian archaeological beach, i.e. the Colentum Archaeological Park.

The visual identity of the Colentum, which was also created through this project, was applied to info panels, a multimedia guide, a tourist map and promotional materials. Bilingual (Croatian and English) educational multimedia guide – a tablet with a multimedia, interactive application with a lot of popular and educational content that you can download at the office of the Tourist Board of Murter-Kornati Municipality with prior notice, is a tool with which you will easily and in a fun way get acquainted with all the discoveries of this archaeological site, unique in all respects in Croatia, but also to experience a piece of life in an ancient city.

Multimedia guide
The multimedia guide will introduce you to twenty topics related to the info panels and stone markers with Roman numerals on the beach, seven of which are interpreted with augmented reality technology. In this way, you will “meet” the owner of the villa on the coast and the port warehouse, Quintus, Lucius Claudius, the Captain and the port workers, and the virtual tour of the Roman villa is particularly attractive, through which users can carefully observe the details of the villa by moving the tablet, from the floor and the frescoes on the walls, up to the vault and exterior. The guide contains a handful of attractive videos, i.e. visualizations of the Liburnian and Roman Colentum, and shows and educates the visitor about all the material remains and things that were found in this exceptional location through extensive archaeological research.

For lovers of the sea, underwater and recreational divers, two large cages with 80 replica amphorae of different sizes have been placed under the sea in front of the beach, and swimmers will be able to easily find the positions of the cages and other prominent underwater artefacts, such as giant accumulations of ballast stones, with the help of large buoys.
