Mali Losinj at Night

Residents of the island of Unije published a petition: “We are looking for a safe high-speed ferry line Rijeka – Mali Lošinj”

UNIJE – Locals are asking the competent institutions (Agency for Coastal Line Transport) to ensure a faster, more reliable and safer high-speed line Rijeka – Mali Lošinj. For this purpose, they organized a public petition.

Among other things, they ask that the catamaran “Jelena” or a catamaran of similar/better performance operate on that line 365 days a year. Namely, in 2022, it happened that due to bad weather conditions, the islands of Unije and Susak remained cut off from the mainland for days due to the inadequate performance of the catamaran “Dubravka”, which has been operating on this line for years.

– This is the Jelena catamaran. Catamaran Jelena is dark. The catamaran Jelena sailed to Unije today after a vicious storm. And on Susak. And on Cres. And she rushed over the big waves to Rijeka. Passengers who sailed today reported back that it was a voyage without any problems. Catamaran Dubravka would not come.

The Council of the local committee of the Union will ask the mayor of Mali Lošinj, Mrs. Ana Kučić, to immediately send an appeal to Jadrolinija to keep the catamaran Jelena permanently on the line Mali Lošinj – Rijeka. Of course, also to adjust the sailing schedule. Again, in this way, they could sail to Unije port in two hours from Rijeka – said the president of the Council of the Local Committee of Unije, Žarko Mrkobrada.

They invite all locals, weekenders, tourists and sympathizers of the islands of Cres, Unije, Lošinj and Susak, as well as all those who understand how vital the connection with the mainland is for an island, to sign this petition, which can be found HERE.
