SAILS AGAINST DRUGS Regatta of humanitarians from all over the world on the Murter Sea

MURTER – Under the motto “Sails against drugs”, participants in the regatta, including humanitarians from all over the world, set sail for the Murter Sea. The regatta has been organized by the Croatian Lions for more than two decades.

350 wind hunters. And 38 ships. In 23 years, more than two million kuna have been collected. Everything was forwarded to associations and institutions that teach young people to say NO to drugs!

– We have helped several hundred addicts in various ways so that they can integrate back into life – Alek Konić, Vice Governor of Lions District 126 Croatia, told HRT.

The regatta is a symbol of the fight against the modern plague. And a symbol of helping. Crews from 16 countries are watching each others moves on the regatta field. But even then – everyone thinks the same.

– Young people should turn to sports. Tell them about the dangers and harms of drugs. Because prevention is most important – said Robert Günthard, president of the Lions District Council of Switzerland.

And for the tenth year, the “Lions” crews tame the wind in the “Murter Sea”. For a reason, they say!

– Everyone knows that the Kornati islands are European Maldives. So there is something to see – said Nino Maletić, Governor of Lions District 129 Slovenia.

The wind and muscle-powered sailing is crawling under the skin of everyone who was untying the ropes this morning. Experienced sea wolves are not surprised. They describe sailing as magical.

– That noise of the sea, the fact that something of 12, 13 tons can go forward on its own at a speed higher than it can on motor power, and you practically gain speed with your knowledge – said Đek Šurija, president of the organizing committee of the regatta.

God and the beating are the judges at the sea. Experience teaches them, that even though the regatta is humanitarian – everyone will do their best.

– They enjoy getting well tired so that when it comes to the end there is something to talk about, to analyze. It all belongs in that sailing atmosphere, said the president of the race committee, Sebastian Levstik.

The goal is for sailors from Murter to send a message to the world about the importance of togetherness and helping the needy. And that’s how it will be!
