Shipping company from Split is ordering an electric vessel

By 2024, the Split company Jadroplov should receive an electric vessel for transporting passengers to all Dalmatian islands. It is good news that the construction of such a ferry is possible in Croatian shipyards, which will make Croatia one of the first countries in this field, and the relevant ministries have supported the project – reports green.hr

Energy transition in maritime transport

Significant changes are taking place in the world in terms of deteriorating weather conditions, and one of the main causes of this, along with coal-fired thermal power plants, is transport, in which shipping is represented to the greatest extent. Jadroplov, a local shipping company in Split takes care that this entire region lives mostly from tourism, for which a clean environment is important, it was thought about what to do so that the ferries connecting Split with the central Dalmatian islands would reduce the emission of harmful gases.

Thus, in cooperation with the company Classis d.o.o. the development of the project for the procurement of an electric ferry began, and recently it became certain that the construction of such a ferry is possible in Croatian shipyards, which will make Croatia one of the first countries in this field. Also, Ministers Butković and then former Minister Čorić gave their support to the entire project earlier, which gives Jadroplov hope that he will successfully complete the project.

“The price will be agreed with the shipyard and we expect that it will not significantly differ from the price of a classic powered ferry. The project is flexible and can maintain regular lines from Split to any central Dalmatian island, including the most distant islands. We intend to contract the construction with some of the Croatian shipyards with a delivery date of 2024”, Jadroplov points out.

Construction is planned in one of the Croatian shipyards. The contract should have been finalized by the summer behind us, and the delivery will take about 2 years according to the contract. The first passengers will use the ferry immediately after the delivery of the ship.
