Korcula Island – Construction of a new port continues

Construction works on a new port in Korcula Town on Korcula Island has continued. Representatives of the Marintek Adriatic company from Sibenik brought seawall pontoons, over 100 meters long, for the Communal port project in PORTO UŠ port. It took over 20 hours to bring the pontoons, which were then tethered to the port. The rest of the pontoons will be delivered in the next 15 days after which they will be properly placed. So far everything is going according to plan, states the Port Authority.

The reconstruction of a seawall Puntin – luka Korčula is valued at about 1.5 million euros, off which 85 percent is financed from the European Cohesion Fund. The contract was signed recently, by Korcula Port Authority director Ante Tvrdeić and representatives of a Pomgrad Inženjering company, which will do the work. The project includes improvement of foundation soil, reinforcement and connection of the breakwater construction, removal of inadequate schooling and installation of a new multilayer schoolyard. Additional work on seawall safety will also be performed. All of this will ensure that the boats can safely board the wester part of Korcula port. It will also improve the overall sea connections to nearby islands and the mainland. 15 percent of the project was financed by the government.

This is the second larger project on Korcula island, after the reconstruction of parts of the promenade near Domince port. Projects are worth more than 3 million euros.
