How long is the ferry route from Split to Hvar?

The sailing time from Split to Hvar town is about 60 minutes.

Yes, there are ferries year-round

Can I take my bike on the ferry from Split to Hvar?

Depends on the operator. On catamarans operated by Jadrolinija, you cannot bring your bike. However, on the Krilo Jet catamaran, you can bring your bike, but you have to buy a ticket for it in advance, as there are only a few spaces. Alternatively, you can take one of the other ferry connections to Island Hvar, such as the car ferry from Split to Stari Grad. Here you can take a bike without any problem (just remember the bike needs a ticket :-))

No, there are no car ferries on the route from Split – Hvar town. You will have to travel from Split to Stari Grad if you want to bring your car.

My personal tips for the Split to Hvar trip

  • If you like a good view and want to sit together, be early at the port. In summer, there can be huge lines for boarding the boat, and as there is free seating, you will simply get better seats if you are first in line.
  • If you don’t care about where you sit, be the last one to board, as you will then have it way easier with getting your luggage when you need to get off the boat
  • Bring a bottle of water, most boats have air conditioning, but with over 300 people in a fairly small place, it can still feel quite warm. You can buy drinks on the boat, but it is way cheaper to bring your own.
  • All operators have fairly good ships, so do not pick based on the operator; pick based on the departure time that suits you the most.
  • Suitcases are usually piled up somewhere on the boat, so make sure you have nothing breakable.
